St. Andrew’s Church was formally dedicated by the Most Rev. James Schwebach, Bishop of LaCrosse, on Aug 8, 1897. However, the faith of St. Andrews community resonated the Eau Pleine valley back as early as 1881.

It’s “charter members” comprised primarily of German homesteaders, are responsible for the settlement of Catholicism in the Town of Day. The stories are endless of pioneers like Andrew Daul [ traversing a 40 mile round trip horse and buggy (or sleigh) to bring a priest to the area]who strived to maintain their catholic practices.

In 1883, the settlers constructed a 22×40′ log building on a donated 2 acres plot of land. This would serve as the first St Andrews church.

Later the parish was attended as a mission of Marshfield and Hewitt. By 1893 the growth of its parishioners necessitated a full time pastor. Four years later (1897), a new brick church was erected to serve the 60 family parish.

In the years to follow a brick school would be built, a chapel and a Sisters living quarters.

By 1950, the congregation encompassed a 40 square mile area serving 160 families (about 880 members)

Today’s Church of St. Andrew was built in 1953. Father Sengole Vethanayagam is the pastor. The devotion of St. Andrew’s parishioners still resonates as they move forward in care and renewal of the church and its buildings to serve the community in worship, fellowship and service
